Outreach Ministries, Inc.
Trinicon Outreach
Ministries, Inc. began in the heart and mind of Rev. Frank R. Smith as a desire
to answer the call of God to mission work. At the age of ten Frank responded to
the call of God to serve Him in any way that God could use him. At the age of
sixteen, Frank responded publicly to the call to ministry. Frank subsequently
served pastorates in Kentucky and Indiana. He also served as a denominationally
representative for American Baptists for over twelve years. All of this finally
led him to an expanded ministry of helping those in need. Rev. Smith currently
serves as pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Indiana.
In July of 1992, Frank with his wife
Marsha and daughter, Jayme sat together at their dining room table in their home
and organized Trinicon Outreach Ministries, Inc. The mission statement is:
"It is the purpose of Trinicon Outreach Ministries, Inc. to provide food,
clothing, work projects and evangelistic outreach to those in need." The
Scripture that inspired this ministry is Matthew 25:35 - 36, 40.
This mission outreach steadily grew
and a thirty four foot Pace Arrow Motor Home was purchased to transport clothing
and serve as a home away from home. Mission fields began to develop; many people
began donating clothing and other items that were distributed from the
Appalachian Mountains to Shreveport, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Over fifty
volunteers eventually began to help with the sorting, packaging and shipping.
In February of 1996 Marsha died from
breast and lung cancer. In July of 1996 Trinicon Outreach Ministries was
incorporated as a 501c3 charitable organization. A Board of Directors was
selected and the work continued to grow. People in need were assisted with food,
clothing and Christian Counseling. The Board of Directors applied for and
received a grant to operate a computer class for those who needed to find work.
Nearly forty people were trained and
many found jobs for the first time to help support their families. A scholarship
program was established with Shelbyville High School with two scholarships being
award each year. These scholarships were given to young people who were
beginning their study in ministry to people of special needs.
In the summer of 2000 an opportunity
to expand the ministry internationally opened up ministries that were
continually growing. Trinicon Outreach Ministries began to supply clothing and
medical equipment to hospitals in the Ukraine. At the same time the ministry to
local people began to expand. Trinicon was there when a family lost their home
to fire or flood. Clothing and furniture were given in the name of Jesus. Many
lives were being touched. Requests came in for rental assistance and for help in
providing prescription medication. Trinicon responded to help those in need.
In 2000 Erbie and Delores Goodwin
volunteered to head the clothing ministry. Each week they collected clothing,
sorted and distributed them to people in need. They spend many hours each week
helping the people of our local community. They also assisted in preparing
clothing to be taken to various places around the United States.
In 2004 the Fellowship Baptist
Church opened its doors and arms to Trinicon Outreach Ministries. The clothing
operation was moved to some spare rooms in the church building. Every Monday
evening twelve to fourteen people came to sort
clothing, package, and prepare to ship the clothing to various places of need.
In early 2006 the Board of Directors
along with the Fellowship Baptist Church made the decision to open a Free
Clothing Store for the people of our community and surrounding area. By mid-year
the store opened for the community. Clothing racks were purchased and
constructed, display boxes were purchased, and the Fellowship Hall of our church
was transformed into a store with hundreds of items of clothing. Clothing for
infants, children, men and women are available. Also shoes, coats, belts,
purses, and other items are available. The store is open the first and third
Saturday of each month from 10:00 - 12:00 noon and the second and fourth Monday
from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Volunteers are always available to assist those who have
needs. Often these volunteers help find items that are not available in the
store.
In March of 2006 Trinicon Outreach
Ministries, Inc. along with the Fellowship Baptist Church decided to build a new
church building and Childcare Center. In 1989 the Fellowship Baptist Church had
purchased five acres of land just ½ miles North of I-74 on Indiana 9 with the
desire to build a new worship center. That land was available to build this new
facility. This Childcare Center will operate twenty-four hours a day for six
days a week. The plans include a Childcare Center that will house 125 children.
The Worship Center that will be located in the same building will have seating
for at least 400 people. An Educational Center that will provide not only Sunday
School Class rooms but educational opportunities for the community will be the
third phase of this new building.
Trinicon Outreach Ministries, Inc
and the Fellowship Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Indiana also produce a radio
program each Sunday over the local radio station WKWH 1520 on the AM dial. This
program is aired at 9:00 A.M. each Sunday.
The current project of Trinicon
Outreach Ministries, Inc is raising funds to build the Childcare Center.
