Shelbyville Municipal Airport

The Shelbyville Municipal Airport is owned and maintained by the City of Shelbyville. The operation of the airport is overseen by an appointed Board of Aviation Commissioners. The Shelbyville airport has been located at the current site of 3529 N 100 W since 1958. The airport is located approximately 3 miles to the Northwest of the City of Shelbyville on the North side of I74, and 1 mile West of State Road 9 on County road 350 North.

The airport property covers over 500 acres and has about 265 acres of farm ground available. It contains about 180 acres of grass areas to be maintained. There are two runways available. The main runway is 5,000 ft by 100 ft and is designed with the capability of handling an aircraft as large as a Boeing 737 in an emergency. The other runway is a turf runway for smaller aircraft. The airport provides a new 4,000 sq ft Brick Terminal Building for the comfort and convenience of Pilots and Passengers. The airport services Corporate Jets and Turboprops with up to 21 seats on a daily basis.

The airport generates revenues for operation from farm ground rental, aircraft hangar rental, rental from the Indiana National Guard, aircraft maintenance and other aircraft service providers. The airport also receives Federal and State funding for land acquisition, runway , parking apron, and taxiway construction and some pavement maintenance. The Federal share has been 90% leaving 5% for the State and 5% for Local. The Federal Funding has recently been increased from 90 to 95% which helps tremendously.

The airport runways are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The airport terminal is open 7 days, 8:00 am to sunset. The Fixed Base Operator which provides aviation services is open 7 days, 8:00 am to sunset. They provide Aviation fuel sales, Aircraft charter, Flight training, ground training, aircraft rental, aircraft sales, aerial photography aircraft, and pilot supplies. There is an Aircraft maintenance firm with FAA licensed mechanics that provides aircraft maintenance services for aircraft up through Corporate Jets and Turboprops, Monday through Friday and other times on request. There are aircraft hangar facilities to hangar up to 70 aircraft.

The Shelbyville Municipal Airport provides transportation services to everyone including the Corporate Community and makes the City of Shelbyville easily accessible by air and very inviting for new industry interested in locating in the area.
